This is the last Hemi 'Cuda ever made, we think

Not only was this beautiful True Blue Metallic Hemi 'Cuda the top selling car at last week's Mecum Spring Classic car auction, it is believed to be the end of a muscle car era.P

When this 23,746 original mile Plymouth was hammered sold last weekend for $550,000 it was billed as being the last Hemi 'Cuda ever made. This claim comes from the fact this particular car is the highest known serial number 426 Hemi equipped 1971 ‘Cuda in existence.P

Selling this high dollar Hemi car hasn't exactly been an easy business. Before the car found a new owner last weekend the car had already made several unsuccessful trips across the auction block. According to Hemmings:P

" The car has previously been a no sale at Mecum auctions, dating as far back as 2007, bidding up to $525,000 at Mecum's Kissimmee auction in 2009; $370,000 at Mecum's St. Charles Auction in 2009; $400,000 in Kissimmee in 2010; $375,000 at Monterey in 2010; and $380,000 in St. Charles in 2010. The car was also spotted in a dealer's inventory prior to its sale last month, with an asking price of $599,000."P

Even if we existed in a dream world and were in the market for a Hemi 'Cuda, we might think twice about paying the hefty "last car built" premium attached to this car. Judging by the $550,000 price tag paid last weekend, at least one bidder did not share our concerns. Regardless of what the car sold for, we would certainly do almost anything for a chance to spend an afternoon hooning this (or any other) Hemi 'Cuda.
